Member Spotlight – Sunflower Bank

“We have a small but mighty staff,’ says Carlyn Lemon, Branch Manager at Sunflower Bank. “It’s important to us that our customers receive a high level of customer service.”

Customers are important to Sunflower Bank, as is the community of McPherson. Giving back to the community and making a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate is what Sunflower Bank strives to do. Currently they are holding a food drive to benefit the McPherson County Christmas Project. Nonperishable items can be brought to the bank through the end of November and will then be distributed in December to families that need that little extra boost during the holiday season.

Sunflower Bank’s ABC Program, in its 19th year, is another way the bank has made an impact on McPherson County. Through the ABC Program Carlyn Lemon says, “you can set up a school code on your Sunflower Bank debit card, and if you sign for your normal transactions, we’ll donate 2¢ per transaction to a school of your choice. We do our best to get all the schools in the area involved so that everyone is well represented.” Through those 19 years, McPherson area schools have received $69,000 via the ABC Program. This has allowed extra assistance for classrooms to obtain needed educational supplies, equipment, and books. The ABC Program is expanding this year from a “one quarter a year” program into a year-round opportunity for its customers to help area schools.

“Lights, Camera, Save” is another Sunflower Bank initiative. This contest is for students 13-18 years of age. “They take a video of themselves for 90 seconds,” said Judy Parks, Sunflower Bank’s Regional Retail Manager, “and they talk about how they have saved and what they are doing with their savings account.” It’s a great way to encourage teens to help educate their peers about the value of saving and using money wisely. An entry form and video link needs to be submitted by December 3rd to www.lightscamerasave.com, for a chance to compete on the national level for a prize of $5,000.

Dustin Jackson, a Wealth Management Advisor for Sunflower Bank, covers this area of Kansas. Jackson says Sunflower Bank specializes in “those transitional periods of time for people, transitioning into retirement. You’re spending your entire working life accumulating and growing your assets, and now it comes time to turn that into a stream of income for your retirement years. That’s an area we specialize in – the financial planning, the retirement planning piece of it.” Jackson can also help you with estate planning – serving as trustee for you and your family or helping to create a plan to transition those assets onto the next generation. Sunflower Bank’s focus is to help their customers during the transitional times.

As Sunflower Bank states on their website – “Your Life. Your Bank …” They’re a community-based bank with national strength – that is big enough to serve and small enough to care. And it’s very obvious by their desire to provide a high level of service for their customers, and through the many ways Sunflower Bank reaches out to the community to support, lend a hand, and make a difference in those living here. You can explore Sunflower Bank’s website here and learn about their banking services. Lobby hours at Sunflower Bank are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m-12 noon.
