Member Spotlight – Krehbiels Specialty Meats
In 1978, Homer Krehbiel started a small country store on the family farm. The store offered only raw milk, frozen ground beef, cheese, and raw honey. After Homer’s retirement in 2012 his son, Jeff Krehbiel, who had been working for his dad for 34 years, took over the daily operations, along with his wife Angie. In 2014 Jeff’s son, Zack Krehbiel, became the 3rd generation to join the team, and was quickly promoted to Production Manager, overseeing all daily production. Krehbiels Specialty Meats provides custom processing, co-packing, private labeling, and a full-service retail outlet, all in a modern USDA inspected facility.
In August, Krehbiels began their 3,000-square-foot addition in the northwest corner of the facility to expand processing capacity by up to 40 percent. “We are very fortunate that everything went smooth and stayed on scheduled because we really needed the space,” said Jeff. “Because of Covid-19 everyone panicked, and our slaughter schedule filled up fast for 2020. We had 400 people on the waiting list for 2021 and we have already begun scheduling for 2022.” They replaced their refrigeration which doubled their freezing capacity of their blast freezer, so they are now able to turn more volume and produce more product faster. They also doubled the cooling capacity of their chill cooler where they hang carcasses. In addition to expanding their physical space, Krehbiel has added five new employees, bringing their total count to 42.
If you are cooking Thanksgiving lunch or dinner this year, Krehbiels has exactly what you need. They provide locally raised turkey from out of Salina Kansas. They are processed in their facility and will be available the week of Thanksgiving. Also, Krehbiels will have hickory smoked fully cooked turkeys. They have whole hickory smoked bone-in hams or spiral sliced/honey glazed hams. They realized not everyone eats turkey or ham on Christmas, so they have array of meats for you to enjoy such as a tenderloin or prime rib.
No holiday feast is complete without dessert! Krehbiels carries the most delicious fruit, pumpkin, and pecan pies made in Nebraska by Village Pie Maker. They recently started carrying ice cream made by Salted Creamery out of Newton. As the holidays approach Krehbiels will also be carrying eggnog from Hildebrand Farms out of Junction City. If you need gifts for your family, friends, co-workers, or employees they have gift baskets. They have many pre-made baskets with an assortment of products to choose from or you can customize your own. Can’t decide? No problem, they have gift cards as well.
