Dandelion Digging Champs!
“Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the community picnic and dandelion digging contest of the City Federations’ anti-dandelion program, staged yesterday, was a decided success. The parade was a great feature and put plenty of pep and ginger into the contestants. Rivalry was keen and the finish was close between the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary teams in the race for the big cake offered as a prize by the Rotary-Anns to the best diggers. This morning it was stated that 2500 pounds of dandelions were dug in the two parks by the contestants.” – from a newspaper article dated 4/14/1922
Although cake sounds like a pretty good incentive, we are thankful for the beautiful parks maintained by our terrific park department crew, so that we don’t have to dig dandelions anymore!
