Member Spotlight – McPherson Public Library
Library services have changed and grown exponentially in recent years, and the McPherson Public Library is keeping pace. Marketing and adult programming coordinator Lindsay Helms shared with over 40 people gathered for the April 11th Chamber Connection about some of the library’s current initiatives.
Sure, you can check out books, CDs, and DVDs. But did you know you can also check out pickle ball and disc golf kits as well as cake pans?
Experience Passes also check out like a book. They are available for different museums and zoos. Families can save a lot of money and enjoy memorable quality time together using Experience Passes. To see what passes are available, stop by the library’s circulation desk at 214 W. Marlin.
The library will soon release memory impaired activities for patrons as their cognitive and motor skills decline with age.
Transparent Language software is a new addition to the library’s online offerings. It’s free to anyone in the world and teaches 110+ different languages, including American Sign Language and some Native American languages like Cherokee. Learners can build vocabulary, practice skills, and maintain what they have learned.
Need a quiet spot to focus or have a small group meeting? Consider a library focus room. The glassed-in spaces are reasonably soundproof. You can reserve them or just step in and use them if they are available.
We’ve all heard of book clubs, but what about a cookbook book club? Cooking Thyme takes place on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Everyone selects a recipe from the cookbook of the month that they want to make, and they bring it to the club, potluck style. They talk about what they made, any changes they made to the recipe, and whether they like it. The cookbook and sign-up sheet are available behind the front desk.
Helms is partnering with the Chamber to teach a series of Business in the Digital Age classes this summer. See more information about the classes and registration in the article above.
The McPherson Public Library is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Their website has lots of information, including a very active calendar where you can register for events. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram, and be sure to check out photos from the April 11th Chamber Connection.
