Member Spotlight – Central Kansas Kids Consignment Store
“A constant in life is that kids are going to grow, and they’re going to grow out of their clothes,” Julie Johnson told the crowd filling her shop for the December 5th Chamber Connection and Ribbon Cutting at Central Kansas Kids Consignment Store, 110 S. Main Street.
Julie saw the need for affordable children’s clothing, toys, and other items, and she wanted to provide that value to the McPherson community, opening Central Kansas Kids Consignment Store September 14th.
As chamber president Carlyn Lemon presented the ceremonial First Dollar of Profit, she told Julie, “Your passion for the community and your desire to provide value to the downtown area is really evident.”
Despite the name, Central Kansas Kids Consignment Store is actually a resale store. People bring in their gently used kids’ clothes, toys, and other items, and they are offered cash or store credit for those items, which the store then sells. There are designated days and times set for donating items, which are posted on the store’s Facebook page. There are currently no more drop-offs in 2024.
In addition to gently used clothes, they carry a select amount of new boutique apparel, items for moms, and stylish diaper bags.
Julie named the shop Central Kansas Kids Consignment Store because she wants it to have a regional draw.
“I want people to shop in McPherson,” she said. “I want people from Salina, Hutchinson, Newton, Moundridge – I want them to come here, to downtown McPherson.”
