Member Spotlight – CCCK Barry McKeown Fitness Court
The morning was chilly and windy, but an enthusiastic crowd gathered as Central Christian College of Kansas launched the Barry McKeown Fitness Court Studio with a Chamber Ribbon Cutting November 18th.
This Fitness Court Studio was developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Central Christian College, and National Fitness Campaign in an effort to expand free access to high quality workouts. It was created with people age 14 and over in mind. The workouts can be adapted for all fitness levels so participants can move at their own pace. Users can also download a free Fitness Court app, which coaches users through the exercise stations.
National Fitness Campaign is a San Francisco-based wellness consulting firm that fosters public-private partnerships in support of wellness with the goal of building a Fitness Court within a 10-minute bike ride of every American. “We are excited to partner in this meaningful way to bring this unique Fitness Court to our campus and make it available to our community at large,” said Dr. Lara Vanderhoof, chief academic officer for Central Christian College. “In addition to enhancing our students’ academic and athletic experiences as they seek to improve heart, soul, mind, and strength, this Fitness Court initiative addresses health equity by providing all members of the McPherson community easy, no-cost access to structured, certified fitness.”
The Fitness Court is located at 1301 S. Main and has over 2,000 square feet of workout space. Because it is lit at night, the court can be used 24 hours a day.
