Member Spotlight – Dacus Auto Body and Collision Repair

Chris and Kena Dacus opened the bay doors to host the May 16th Chamber Connection at Dacus Auto Body & Collision Repair at 2088 E. South Front St.

The business has grown substantially since Chris and Kena purchased their first building in Canton in 2014 and Chris began working as the sole employee. Kena started working full-time alongside her husband in 2015. Since then, they moved their location to McPherson and have grown to 25 employees.

They recently started doing some light mechanical work like alignment, air conditioning and suspension work. In fact, Kena said, they do alignment on almost every vehicle they work on.

One thing that has really changed is the estimate process, Kena explained. Typically, in the past, insurance companies have said to get three estimates, and they’ll pay for the cheapest one.

“It’s kind of like going to the doctor. Do you really want the cheapest doctor doing surgery on you?” asked Kena. “Probably not. We always coach people that that’s not a requirement. By law, they cannot require you to do that. You should absolutely choose a repair shop that you TRUST, not based on price.”

She said they don’t even like to write estimates anymore because there are so many potentially broken pieces that are hidden behind panels or in sensors that can’t be detected until more thorough investigation.

Thanks to sensors, collapsible steering columns, and other factors in newer vehicles, safety is becoming a bigger concern in collision repair. It is no longer a primarily cosmetic job so you want to make sure you are taking your vehicle to a shop you can trust – like Dacus.

With Dacus Towing & Recovery, they offer not just towing services, but also 24/7 roadside assistance in Central Kansas. The hotline for this assistance is 620-241-6058.

They also have a car wash with large and small bays that can fit anything from semi trucks, RV’s, campers and buses to small cars and vans. Gift cards are available as well as fleet cards to keep company vehicles clean.
