Member Spotlight – Known Motors
Known Motors, a new McPherson business specializing in vintage Mazda mechanical restoration and Mazda rotary engine repair, hosted a McPherson Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting October 13th.
Known Motors is all about owner Mason Polston’s passion for vintage Mazdas. They can diagnose, repair and restore all mechanical aspects of any pre-1990 Mazda vehicle, although Mazda Rotary engine repair is their specialty – from light service to complete performance rebuilds of any Mazda Rotary engine, including the RX7 and RX8 models. They also have a variety of parts for 1979-1991 Mazda RX7s for sale through their website.
In addition, Known Motors offers vapor honing services. This is like sandblasting, but the machine uses high pressure water and media to blast, clean, and polish non-ferrous metals. It is also gentle enough to blast wood and plastics. It can be used in auto restoration as well as home restoration projects.
As a graduate of the auto restoration program at McPherson College, Mason is passionate about design and envisions a day when Known Motors will be a “coach workshop,” building cars from scratch – from idea into existence. For now, he and his wife/business partner Alaina host Auto Design Club, an initiative that gives McPherson design students and the public a nonjudgmental space to be creative.
