Member Spotlight – McPherson College Athletics Department
An eager crowd gathered to tour the newly expanded, renovated, and renamed Holman Fieldhouse as the McPherson College athletics department hosted the November 14th Chamber Connection at 400 N. Eshelman in what used to be known as the Sport Center.
In 2022, McPherson College announced a gift from Craig and Karen Holman of McPherson totaling more than $1 million for the expansion and remodeling of the Sport Center as part of the Building Community comprehensive fundraising campaign. The athletic expansion and renovation project added over 5,200 square feet to the former Sport Center facility and remodeled another 5,000 of existing space.
Holman Fieldhouse houses two gyms, athletic department offices, athletic training facilities, fitness room, conference and classrooms, and a 2,088 square foot weight room overlooking the stadium. The expansion also included a new athletic training room complete with treatment tables, taping stations, four whirlpools, an exam room, and three offices.
“It’s been tremendous in recruiting, our student athlete experience, and just everything we do in serving our student athletes, which is why we’re here,” said athletic director Josh Daume.
With over 500 student athletes among McPherson College’s record population of approximately 870, Holman Fieldhouse sees quite a bit of activity. Those student athletes play an array of sports, most recently adding women’s bowling last winter. They practice and play at Starlite Lanes since there aren’t bowling facilities on campus. Daume said the school is always considering what other sports it might offer, whether it be women’s flag football, wrestling, lacrosse, or something else.
“We’re just looking for the right fit, at the right time, with what we can handle facility-wise,” Daume said.
