Member Spotlight- McPherson Festival of Cultures
Can you feel the excitement building about the McPherson Festival of Cultures? What has been a terrific 22 year tradition of celebrating the Scottish heritage, is now a festival to embrace many cultures. Co-Chairs of the McPherson Festival of Cultures, Diana Carter and Alisha Mervyn, shared the fun new aspects of this years’ festival which will enhance the Scottish favorites. Don’t worry, if you enjoyed the Highland athletic games, Celtic music, sheep dogs and pipe bands, they are still part of the festival. New this year will be demonstrations from around the world-Tai Chi and Yoga, Indian Dancers, Drum Circle, Latin/ Jazz and Bluegrass bands, a steel drum band and even a wish lantern ceremony. Try out unique ethic foods, take a cruise on the paddle boats and don’t miss the beer garden featuring craft beer.
Start your new tradition and come see what the McPherson Festival of Cultures is all about! It’s only an $8 gate price for those 13 years of age and older. Children 12 and under get in free. In addition to all of the great things happening at the McPherson Festival of Cultures, the committee and community are partnering for additional opportunities and support. The American Legion family night, Thursday, August 18th will benefit the Festival. A new fundraiser this year is The Fortune Cookie 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning, September 24th. Don’t forget the Scotch tasting sponsored by the McPherson Museum and the international dinner organized and sponsored by the CVB, Saturday evening.
