Member Spotlight – Peoples Bank & Trust
A crowd gathered for the November 2nd Chamber Connection to help celebrate Peoples Bank & Trust’s 125th anniversary. On November 1, 1898, F.A. and Mary Vaniman opened the bank in its current location at 101 S. Main, known then as Peoples State Bank. Mr. Vaniman was the bank’s president for 50 years. In all of these 125 years, there have bee only seven bank presidents including Tom Pruitt, the current president.
Today Peoples Bank & Trust has 17 locations and over 200 employees serving communities in central Kansas.
“Our foundation is here in McPherson and remains here in Mcpherson,” said Tom. “And F.A. and Mary when they came in saw something about McPherson that I think remains today. And that is they saw opportunity. They saw a progressive community. They saw industry and they saw people that wanted to build and move forward. And I’m thankful that Peoples Bank yet today is still a part of a community like that.”
Brad Bengtson, president of the McPherson branch, applauds the employees for the bank’s success.
“Nobody here works harder than these employees we have at Peoples Bank,” he said. “Our four core values of – being honest, working hard, having vision, and building relationships – that’s what they strive for every day. And we’re all doing it to impact the communities that we serve… Every day I leave this bank I ask myself, ‘Did I make an impact on my community. That’s a strong thing to look in the mirror and ask yourself every day. But that what our employees do.”
