Member Spotlight – Tammy’s Salads Soups and More
Tammy’s Salads Soups and More paused between its breakfast and lunch routines to welcome guests to a Chamber Ribbon Cutting ceremony October 11th. The congratulatory accolades must have felt good after the rocky start Tammy Nestor had launching her catering business in 2020.
When Covid hit just as Tammy started her catering business, she didn’t let it end her dreams of owning her own business. Instead, she shifted gears and sold take-and-bake casseroles out of a booth at The Ark Antiques and Flea Market. After a few years, changing State regulations forced her to change gears again, and Tammy saw the need for a salad bar in McPherson, so she opened one at 1352 N. Main. Since then, Tammy’s Salads Soups and More has evolved and grown its offerings based on the needs Tammy sees in the community.
“What does the public want? I don’t know,” said Tammy. “We just keep trying different things.”
In addition to the salad bar, Tammy’s Salads Soups and More continues to offer take-and-bake casseroles as well as about 13 lunchtime sandwiches, delicious desserts, and they just recently started opening for breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
While the restaurant bears her name, Tammy said she’s rarely there because she’s so busy with the catering side of the business. Her son Cord manages the restaurant and operates Whiskey Wagon, the family’s mobile bar.
It’s a family endeavor, much like when Tammy grew up on a farm, cooking for the crews. That’s probably also where she learned the resiliency that has grown her business to what it is over these past several years.
Stop by Tammy’s Salads Soups and More at 1352 N. Main Street for a delicious meal, and follow their Facebook page for regular updates on their offerings. Be sure to check out the photos from their ribbon cutting.
