Member Spotlight- United Way of McPherson County
The United Way 2016 campaign kicks off with an aggressive goal of $250,000. Although this is higher than years past, this goal represents the actual need in our community. Giving to United Way of McPherson County means your dollars are invested locally, helping 13 organization all at one time. As co-chair, Jen Bonham said “everyone knows someone that has been touched by at least one of these organizations.” The 13 organizations or partner agencies have requested funding to help with only a portion of their budget; an extremely important portion needed to provide programs for rebuilding lives, providing basic needs, building self-reliance and preparing for life. A very poignant remark on the flyer and reiterated by United Way of McPherson County director Stuart Dille is “Everyone should have the chance to have their miracle happen.” Your donation makes a difference and gives someone the chance. A large portion of the donations (70% actually) typically come from businesses and employee match programs. They are very simple to set up, can be created as a friendly competition to get 100% employee participation and an incentive of matched dollars by employers, gets everyone motivated to give more. Volunteering is another extremely important part of community impact and those who attended the Chamber coffee, experienced the touching narrative of the “professional volunteer” June Anderson. Kipp Cordell with MTC created a video for United Way of McPherson County to share June’s story. Be watching the United Way of McPherson County Facebook page to see the video when it is posted. June has volunteered in many ways and is still volunteering at the hospital and delivering Meals on Wheels. While her husband was proud of her volunteerism and labeled her the professional volunteer, her grandchildren said they want to “grow up to be like Grandma”! United Way of McPherson County presented her with a life time volunteer award made especially for her by The Clayworks. Thank you June for bringing joy, along with those Meals on Wheels and for being a powerful example of giving.
