2024 Emerging Leader Awarded to Kena Dacus
The Emerging Leader Award is presented each year to an individual who is an up-and-coming business and community leader – a rising star who is inspiring others. Among other criteria, this individual’s professional success is matched by their commitment to serving our community, and they demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession.
This year’s very deserving recipient, Kena Dacus with Dacus Auto Body & Collision Repair, was presented with the 2024 Emerging Leader Award at the McPherson Chamber’s October 22nd banquet.
Kena graduated from McPherson High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wichita State University. She began her career in banking and corporate accounting. In 2015, Kena transitioned to the family business, Dacus Auto Body, where she works full-time alongside her husband, Chris. Her involvement spans various aspects of the business, allowing her to apply her expertise while contributing to its growth and success. Kena and Chris together established Dacus Towing and Recovery in 2020, further expanding their family business and service offerings to the community.
Kena is actively involved in her industry by serving as the Past President of the Kansas Auto Body Association, where she advocates for advancements in the collision repair field. She also serves as Co-Chair for SkillsUSA Kansas in the Collision Repair, Automotive Refinishing, and Collision Damage Analysis competitions.
Beyond her professional involvement, Kena is committed to community service. She is the Past President of the United Way of McPherson County. She is currently a board member for the YMCA of McPherson and volunteers with Meals on Wheels and StepMC, working to address the needs of residents and foster community engagement. In her personal time, Kena enjoys reading and spending time with Chris and their three children: Reed, Liam, and Demi.
