Chamber to Host Candidates Forum
The McPherson Chamber of Commerce will host a McPherson County Candidates Forum at 7:15 P.M. Monday, July 11 at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
“The Chamber’s goal is to have informed voters,” explained Jennifer Burch, Executive Director of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce. “The forum is designed to give voters an opportunity to hear candidates on issues, concerns in their specific department.”
Candidates will make a two-minute opening statement and then answer prepared questions within a specified time period. Candidates will not be given the questions prior to the forum to see how well the candidates can articulate their positions and perspectives. County candidates and incumbents have agreed to participate – Incumbent County Sheriff Larry Powell and Jerry Montagne candidate for county sheriff. Incumbent County Clerk Cathy A. Schmidt and Hollie D. Melroy candidate for County Clerk.
The format is question-and-answer as opposed to debate. Audience members will have the opportunity upon arrival and during the forum to write questions on cards for submission to the candidates. The questions will be screened for duplication, legibility and suitability. Dan Hervey, Business And Membership Chair will serve as the moderator. McPherson News will broadcast live on Facebook.
The forum is open to the public.
